Target: Barack Obama

With Senator Obama's surging popularity, it's been quite interesting to observe the shift in focus from Hillary Clinton. Republicans are trying to figure out how to hit him -- with a lack of success at this moment -- while the press has made Obama the new darling of the dance.

Of course with the good comes the bad. The news media have begun talk of the ...gulp...big "A."

Assassination threats.

Thanks to one of my readers, gigiTV, (much love!), I've been brought up to speed on the burgeoning threat:

"Have you been watching the news lately? The press is really pissing me
off about Obama and assassination. I know there are already people out
here who have thought about it, but do they have to keep bringing it up?
I feel like then it will become a self-fulfilling prophesy.

"Well, they have already started comparing him to Kennedy - and take your
pick on which one - JFK or Bobby. He's been compared to both. Then last
Thursday during the Iowa caucus, somehow they managed to compare him [Obama] to
McKinley in some round about way. Now most people wouldn't know that he
was also assassinated but Brian Williams HAD to bring that up just in
case nobody got it. That REALLY cheesed me.

"They didn't come out, until last night, to actually ask him to his face
about assassination. These other references never brought up
assassination but when you compare someone to JFK or Bobbie Kennedy,
what's the first thing you think of? And for the life of me I don't know
HOW they compared him to McKinley unless it was his later embracing a
more diplomatic resolution to certain world economic issues.

"Oh, and when was the last time you heard anybody compared to McKinley"

Well, I haven't heard any McKinley references in my 36 years, ever. In  fact, I'm sure that in your, my, or even our parents lifetimes, no one has made direct reference to him! So, to dig that far in the past to draw an assassination reference is certainly disturbing. As to the Kennedy references, the mere mention of that family's name immediately conjures images of violent, untimely death, by gun or by plane.

This link at the blog Right Wing Nut House goes deep into the reasons an assassination threat is real. And when the Washington Times, the conservative voice of the Nation's Capital makes news about this subject, again, the threat is real.

And elsewhere on the internet, there are rumors of plots existing, and it's a fact that Obama has been granted even more enhanced security by the U.S. Secret Service -- some of which is mandated by a 1968 law, as he is one of the front-runners in either party, and the enhancements due to "unconfirmed" threats on his life.

If you don't believe the level of hate, the vitriol, the disgust for this man, here are some posts that I found at Stormfront.org, answering the question of what if Obama wins:

"Secession becomes an accepted option, and a rallying call. The federal government becomes illegit. Half the military goes AWOL. America descends into chaos."

"Even if it does happen, which is unlikely, It will be a great example to awaken people that whites need to take action.

"I wonder if he plans on campaining in Memphis,I am sure he can get a room at the Lorraine Motel."

The Lorraine Motel, by the way, is where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. It's sad to say that even the rumor of such threats prove that this country has progressed so little since the days of slavery. Some people are so threatened by a black man assuming power that they will kill...
