Brace Yourself, The Mudslide Is About To Begin
With the Democratic primary race all but done, it appears that the forces within and without the party are lining up to take potshots at Senator Barack Obama.
Since anti-Obamaites couldn't get Tony Rezko to stick, they're resorted to the big guns: drugs and homosexuality.
A man by the name of Larry Sinclair, erstwhile coke-head, and resident of a home for the disabled in Duluth, MN, has been for months saying that he and then-State Representative Obama had oral sex and used cocaine and crack during a limo-back-seat encounter in 1999. He's gone on YouTube and In February, he filed suit against the Senator, -- acting as his own attorney -- requesting injunctive relief and that Obama's campaign be compelled to cease "smear and scandalous" claims made against Sinclair. And recently Mr. Sinclair took and passed a lie detector test. Problem is, lie detector tests are notoriously unreliable, so much so that they are inadmissible in a court of law. Why do I bring this bullshit to the fore, you ask? Well, consider it a shot across the bow, fair warning if you will, that forces aligned against Mr. Obama are ready to use the 'kitchen sink' strategy, popularized by the former Clinton campaign strategist Mark Penn, too.
The only problem so far has been that Larry Sinclair as a messenger, has been a failure. He's been not-credible throughout the process, and the fact that he's unable to provide one ounce of proof -- even a description of Senator Obama's male member -- has been the undoing of this particular 'scandal.' So far, even Fox UnNews hasn't run with the story -- and they'll report on any rumor, innuendo, or allegation against a non-conservative. Regardless, the ugliness is welling up; you can feel it.
First, there was Obama-as-non-Christian-muslim-plant. Then, there was Obama-whose-pastor-hates-America. Next, there was Obama-as-racist-hater-of-America-himself, And now, we've come to Obama-the-homosexual-crackhead.
And here's the thing: the allegations don't have to be true, they don't have to be proven, they don't have to make sense, they don't have to be really plausible. They just need that 1% possibility of truth individually for their cumulative effect to have the desired outcome. And remember every lie has a scintilla of truth at its core -- in the Sinclair case, it's Obama's previous revelation that he did indeed experiment with cocaine as a young adult. The rest of the effect relies on gullibility and built-in bias to do it's dirty work.
I'd like to hope that Americans are too sophisticated for such schemes to work, but I've been wrong before on that score.
